Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau scuttled an ESPN report that he was considering going to another team after his contract expires following Super Bowl XLV.

LeBeau, 73, who is one of the top defensive coordinators in the NFL and a 2010 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a player, told the NFL Network on Wednesday evening, "I promise you, if I'm coaching, it will be the Pittsburgh Steelers."

The ESPN report said that LeBeau would strongly consider joining the Cardinals and reunite with Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm, among other former Steelers coaches on Arizona's staff.

LeBeau has directed one of the NFL's top defensive units annually since taking over as Pittsburgh's defensive coordinator in 2004.

The way we see it

It wouldn't be a shock if LeBeau's not coaching the Steelers' defense in 2011 because, at age 73, he had decided to retire. It would be a shock if he left Pittsburgh to coach elsewhere.

LeBeau has a terrific group of talented defenders in Pittsburgh who know his system and fit it like a glove. And he knows that the Steelers are built to contend for a title every season. Were he to go elsewhere, he would have a lot of work to do to get the players he wants/needs.
