The Chargers have hired Jason Michael as their new tight ends coach.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to add Jason to our staff," head coach Norv Turner said. "He brings a good, balanced offensive background. He's worked with tight ends and he's worked with quarterbacks."
Michael was an offensive assistant on the 49ers in 2009 and was promoted to quarterbacks coach the following year. He coached tight ends with the Jets in '07 and at the University of Tennessee in '08. He has five years of NFL experience.
He replaces Rob Chudzinski, who joined the Panthers' staff as offensive coordinator.
The way we see it
Michael has experience working with Turner from their days together with the Raiders, and he has coached in similar offensive systems in both New York and San Francisco. He should be a solid fit for the Chargers and will get to coach arguably the league's best tight end, Antonio Gates.
