The Vikings worked toward completing their coaching staff, bringing on Jeff Davidson as their offensive line coach and Craig Johnson as their quarterbacks coach.
Davidson had been the offensive coordinator for the Panthers since 2007. He also coached the Patriots' offensive line during their run of three Super Bowl titles during the early part of the last decade.
Johnson coached the Titans' quarterbacks from 2002-09 before coaching the team's running backs and holding the title of assistant head coach in 2010. The Titans' assistants all were in their final year of their contracts, which opened the door for him to move to the Vikings.
On Wednesday, the Vikings added offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and LB coach Mike Singletary and named Fred Pagac their defensive coordinator. Pagac had run the defense on an interim basis after Leslie Frazier took over for fired head coach Brad Childress.
The Vikings are still waiting to name a running backs coach. It's believed that Colts RB coach Gene Huey is waiting to make a decision to take the Vikings' offer for that position in Minnnesota.
The way we see it
Johnson is considered a patient coach with a strong body of work with Steve McNair, Kerry Collins and Vince Young. Of course, with Young available and Musgrave also known as a good QB teacher, the Young-to-Minnesota talk should heat up a little. And Davidson, despite complaints about his play-calling in Carolina, is regarded as a very good OL tutor.
