The Ravens have announced that Chuck Pagano will be their new defensive coordinator, after Greg Mattison departed to take the same job at the University of Michigan. Pagano had been the team's secondary coach the past three seasons.

"We're excited for our defense and for Chuck, and we're happy for Greg Mattison," head coach John Harbaugh said in a statement released by the team. "I will talk more about it tomorrow when we formally announced Chuck as our new coordinator in a press conference."

Pagano previously was a coordinator at the University of North Carolina. As secondary coach, he led a unit that finished seventh in the NFL in average yards per pass play in 2010.

The way we see it

The switch from Mattison to Pagano should not be a major one for the Baltimore defense. Both are respected coaches who have similar, attacking schemes, and the Ravens should be a tough opponent for years to come with Pagano leading the way.
