The Bears signed QB Matt Gutierrez to a reserve/future contract Tuesday.

Gutierrez, a fourth-year veteran, spent time with the Bears in the preseason, but did not play in a game. Undrafted out of Idaho State in 2007, Gutierrez signed with the Patriots as a rookie and appeared in five games. He was the third-string quarterback for the Chiefs in 2009, but was released in June, 2010.

The Bears' backup quarterbacks, Todd Collins and Caleb Hanie, have contracts that are due to expire in the offseason.
