Sleeper in Vikings' QB derby: Bomar

Here are several whispers we've been hearing from around the NFC North:

• The Vikings don't know where they'll turn for their starting quarterback, but here's one name to keep in mind for the position battle: Rhett Bomar. The Vikings signed him off the Giants' practice squad late in the season but gave him a multiyear deal and will let him compete with a veteran and perhaps a rookie if the team moves Joe Webb back to wideout. Bomar, who once was considered a better talent than Sam Bradford, has some ability.

• With Packers RB Ryan Grant saying he's close to being fully recovered from the ankle injury that ended his 2010 season in Week One — he plans to fully participate in the Packers' offseason program, if there is one — and rookie James Starks looking like a force to be reckoned with moving forward, the odds of free-agent RB Brandon Jackson sticking in Green Bay are not looking all that good. Jackson admitted as much in the days leading up to the Packers' divisional playoff game in Atlanta.

• Lions DL coach Kris Kocurek told PFW that DE Kyle Vanden Bosch expects to be "back in the fold" for training camp after neck surgery, which is not expected to be career-threatening. The Lions should have their entire starting defensive line intact next season in what should be the strength of the team.
