With two sets of division rivals facing off this weekend in the AFC's divisional-round of the playoffs, there has been a fair share of trash talk, subtle or not. The league decided to have its say.
League spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed that Ray Anderson, the NFL's executive VP of football operations, contacted multiple clubs to remind players that, "comments of a physically threatening nature are always taken into account in evaluating discipline for illegal physical contact on the field."
The league told teams to tell players "trash talking and bravado" is not to spill over into the field of play. The Ravens face the Steelers Saturday afternoon while the Patriots and Jets play on Sunday.
