Vikings ponder: Roof or no roof?

The Vikings' quest for a new stadium is only in the middle stages, but there seems to be a split even among members of the organization over whether the new stadium should be an indoor facility or an outdoor facility and whether an outdoor facility would include a retractable roof. Team officials including Lester Bagley, who is heading up the Vikings' stadium project, believe an indoor facility serves no added value, although the state legislature in charge of passing any kind of public funding might disagree. A facility comparable to the Metrodome could lure other high-profile events such as year-round concerts or sporting events like the NCAA basketball Final Four. Ask the coaches and they would tell you that the noise inside the Metrodome gives them an advantage that is priceless. For years, that stadium routinely has ranked as one of the loudest in the NFL.
