The Chargers hired Rich Bisaccia Tuesday to be their new special-teams coach.

Bisaccia comes from Tampa Bay, where he was the associate head coach and special-teams coordinator.

"Rich's special teams have had success in this league," said Chargers head coach Norv Turner. "He's been with Tampa Bay for nine years, and their teams have been consistently good to excellent. He helped them win a Super Bowl. Rich is a high-energy guy that I know will bring out the best in our players."

The Chargers decided not to renew the contract of special-teams coach Steve Crosby the Monday after the season ended. The Chargers had four punts blocked this season and they ranked last in opponents' punt-return average.

The Chargers also announced Thursday that they will begin their search for a defensive coordinator after the Panthers hired Ron Rivera as their new head coach. Secondary coach Steve Wilks and LB coach John Pagano are expected to be interviewed for the position, as well as candidates outside the Chargers' organization.
