Here's an update on the progress of the Browns' head-coaching search:

Candidates: The Browns have interviewed the following NFL assistants: Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur (Jan. 7), Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey (Jan. 8), Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell (Jan. 11).

Status of other interviews: There are no reports of any other interviews scheduled at this time, though the Browns are only confirming interviews after they happen.

Has a favorite emerged? There are multiple reports suggesting Shurmur, who has been the Rams' offensive coordinator the last two seasons, is the favorite to capture the job. Before taking the job with the Rams, he spent 10 seasons as an Eagles assistant, with seven seasons as Philadelphia's QB coach. In Philadelphia, he worked with head coach Andy Reid, a former assistant to now-Browns president Mike Holmgren when Holmgren coached the Packers, and GM Tom Heckert, who holds the same position in Cleveland. Shurmur's uncle, Fritz, was Holmgren's defensive coordinator in Green Bay from 1994-98.
