DL Atiyyah Ellison's stay in Foxborough was short. The Patriots released Ellison on Saturday after signing him on Jan. 4.

Ellison, a third-round pick by the Panthers in 2005, has spent time with the Panthers, Texans, Ravens, 49ers, Jaguars and Chiefs in his career.  In 2009, he played in 15 games with six starts for the Jaguars, recording 16 tackles and a sack.

The way we see it

The Patriots officially placed Mike Wright on injured reserve Friday and they are thin on the D-line, but they must not have thought Ellison could help them after seeing him in practice this week. They did activate rookie DL Brandon Deaderick from the suspended list and could still sign someone before their playoff game next Sunday.
