Some fans clearly were upset with the Giants' decision to retain head coach Tom Coughlin, but the issue apparently was never in question. Coughlin led the Giants to 10 wins, which was tied for fourth-most in the NFC, and this despite 42 turnovers on the season. Can you blame a coach for turnovers? Not directly, no. And the Giants were not close to doing so because they believe that Coughlin did a good job this season and that they can't find a better available coach on the free-agent market. It's yet another sign that the Giants are a team of great stability, starting with its ownership. And that ownership perhaps showed a real strong sign of support when it allowed an NFL Films video of Coughlin saying critics can "kiss my ass" in the wake of a Week 17 locker-room celebration. The typically conservative Giants easily could have stepped in and vetoed usage of this footage, but they apparently allowed Coughlin to speak his mind as a sign of their backing for the coach.
