The Patriots have re-signed LB Marques Murrell.

Murrell originally joined the Patriots on March 10, 2010 and recorded a special-teams tackle against the Bengals in the season opener. He was released following the Week One game.

The 6-2, 250-pounder joined the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Eagles in 2007 and spent three seasons with the Jets from 2007-09.

The way we see it

The signing of Murrell is the Pats' latest move to prepare their defense for the postseason. Murrell is a player that is familiar with the 3-4 defense and has spent time with New England previously, which could help fill the void left when DE Ron Brace was placed on I.R. earlier this week.
