The Vikings gave fans one reason to smile last week with their unexpected win at Philadelphia, a game that would give observers hope for a win in Detroit. But the Lions have been coming on lately and have a chance to pass the Vikings for third place in the NFC North. That's considered huge progress for a team that not long ago couldn't win a game in 16 attempts.

The Lions will approach this game like a postseason contest while the Vikings must return to the field where they got thumped by the Giants a few weeks ago. Brett Favre is out, and some Vikings fans might be excited about that and the fact that Joe Webb is coming off a terrific first start. But Favre was effective against the Lions in Week Three, and you can bet Jim Schwartz would rather face a QB with fewer than 50 pass attempts than to defend a Hall of Famer in what might be his final game.

Prediction: Lions 27, Vikings 14
