Packers-Bears prediction

When I made my Week 17 picks for PFW’s Handicapper’s Corner last Sunday evening, the early line we were given on the Bears-Packers game had the Packers as a five-point favorite. It didn’t take long for me to set my sights on the Bears to at least cover that number, as it appeared at the time that they were going to have to work right down to the wire to secure a No. 2 seed throughout the playoffs. I also immediately took into account the big emphasis Bears head coach Lovie Smith ALWAYS puts on beating the Packers, and it just seemed like another close game would be on tap similar to the Packers-Bears Week Three matchup.

Then Tuesday night happened. Because the Eagles went in the tank, the Bears clinched the No. 2 seed, and, within a few days, the spread for this weekend’s bash skyrocketed to double digits in the Packers’ favor.

The Packers for sure look like a winner on Sunday — and probably a double-digit winner at that. I suspect Aaron Rodgers would really like to pass for 307 yards and reach the 4,000-yard passing mark for a third straight season. I could also see Donald Driver rising up from the dead again in a big way. The Bears will hang around for a while, but at the end of the day, the Packers should be getting a well-deserved playoff berth.

Prediction: Packers 30, Bears 20
