Despite missing the playoffs for the second season in a row after a late-season collapse, the Giants will retain Tom Coughlin as their head coach, according to team owner John Mara.
Mara told reporters following the team's Week 17 win over the Redskins that Coughlin will return in 2011.
"I believe in the guy. I believe in stability," said Mara. "The players play hard for him."
In seven seasons as Giants head coach, Coughlin is 65-47, with four consecutive playoff appearances from 2005-08, including a Super Bowl championship following the '07 season.
The way we see it
With all the media pressure in New York, Coughlin has been under heavier scrutiny than most coaches, especially after the second-half falls the Giants have had the past two seasons. It appears the pressure hasn't gotten to Mara, however, as the owner is keeping his coach around for at least one more season.
