Cardinals' Feely deserving of Pro Bowl alternate

Following are some whispers that we've been hearing from around the NFC West:

• Of the five Cardinals players who were named Pro Bowl alternates, our team sources agree the most deserving selection was PK Jay Feely, who unbeknownst to many, fought through a nagging groin injury to put together a very solid season. "He was really hurting for a while there, including in the Denver game, when he scored all those points (25, to be exact)," one source told PFW.

• It's been no secret in Seattle that first-round OLT Russell Okung has been playing at far less than full strength this season. "He's still sore in both ankles," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said in a media briefing before the regular-season finale. "They're both giving him problems, and he just has to make it through it."

• Niners president and CEO Jed York has indicated that he would be seeking advice from his uncle Eddie DeBartolo Jr., who previously walked in York's shoes as the Niners' owner when the franchise was held in much higher esteem than it is currently. Our sources on the scene tell us they can tell that York has already been in Uncle Eddie's ear. "The comments he's all of a sudden making — like 'My job is to just sign the checks' — are remarks just like his uncle used to make," said one source. "It's kind of revealing."

• We hear it's pretty much a given that veteran Mike Karney won't be back with the Rams next season, with the team apparently believing that Brit Miller, who recently went on injured reserve, and, to a lesser extent, TE Michael Hoomanawanui are more than capable of getting the job done at fullback.
