The Bills signed LB Shawne Merriman to a two-year deal on Saturday, GM Buddy Nix confirmed to ESPN.
The Bills claimed Merriman off waivers from the Chargers at midseason, but injuries kept him from playing a snap with Buffalo. The three-time Pro Bowler has just four sacks in the last three seasons.
Merriman underwent reconstructive knee surgery in 2008 and suffered from an Achilles tendon injury and a calf injury in 2010.
The way we see it
Merriman is only 26, and the Bills hope he can get healthy and be an effective pass rusher for them in 2011, as that's a position they could use help at. He has 43½ career sacks in 60 games.
