John Fox will not return in 2011 as the Panthers' head coach, the team officially announced on Friday.
Team owner Jerry Richardson said in a statement that he told Fox that he appreciates everything he has done but that "it is time for both sides to move in different directions." Fox will coach the team Sunday at Atlanta.
During his nine seasons as Panthers head coach, Fox led the team to a 78-73 record, three playoff appearances and a trip to Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Richardson's announcement comes as no surprise, as Fox had not been offered a new contract the last two offseasons. The team has the top pick in the 2011 draft as it enters full rebuilding mode.
