Jaguars QB David Garrard will have surgery on his right middle finger on Thursday and miss Sunday's game against the Texans, according to the Florida Times-Union. Garrard also indicated that he would not be available for the playoffs should the team qualify.

Garrard originally injured the finger in Week 15 when he hit it on the helmet of one of the Colts' defensive ends.

Trent Edwards will likely get the start in Garrard's place, with Todd Bouman serving as his backup.

The way we see it

The injury couldn't have come at a worse time, as the Jags need a win, coupled with a Colts loss, to win the AFC South and earn a postseason berth. With RB Maurice Jones-Drew questionable with a knee injury, it won't be easy for Jacksonville to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2007.

Fantasy spin

The injury downgrades the entire Jags offense. The Texans can stack the box if MJD is able to play, and the fantasy value of the Jacksonville wideouts decreases without Garrard under center.
