Here's our weekly look at the contributions made by Browns rookies this season:
CB Joe Haden (first round): Haden has become the Browns' best cornerback. He intercepted his sixth pass of the season in Cleveland's 20-10 loss to Baltimore on Sunday and is now tied for the AFC lead in picks. Haden also recorded his first career sack and forced fumble.
S T.J. Ward (second round): Ward leads the Browns in tackles on defense (116) and special teams (18), per NFL.com, and has made a major impact in his first season in Cleveland. "He is consistently aggressive and aware," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said of Ward Tuesday. "He's a really good football player."
QB Colt McCoy (third round): McCoy was intercepted three times in the loss to Baltimore, doubling his season total for picks. Overall, though, McCoy has had an impressive first season, completing 115-of-181 passes for 1,367 yards with five TDs in seven starts.
OG Shawn Lauvao (third round): The Browns' backup right guard, Lauvao played as a reserve in Week 16. He's played in nine games this season with one start.
WR Carlton Mitchell (sixth round): Mitchell has appeared in five games this season as a reserve. He was inactive in Week 16.
DL Travis Ivey (undrafted free agent): Promoted to the active roster from the practice squad on Dec. 21, the 6-4, 325-pound Ivey started at left defensive end vs. Baltimore and notched one tackle. "He did some good things, some things that definitely have to be corrected in terms of your first game where he was a little too fast on stuff," head coach Eric Mangini said Monday of Ivey, when asked if he would continue to get a chance to play. "You forget, when it's a guy's first game, how much the adrenaline, all that stuff is going, kind of like T.J. (Ward) talked about on his first game. We'll see how he does in practice." Mangini said Ivey's play in practice and his size were factors that led to him seeing regular playing time vs. the Ravens.
DL Ko Quaye (undrafted free agent): Signed off the Bills' practice squad on Dec. 23, Quaye was inactive in the Week 16 game vs. Baltimore.
DL Brian Sanford (undrafted free agent): Sanford has yet to appear in a game this season. He is listed as the Browns' third-string nose tackle. "Brian Sanford's had some good weeks of practice," Mangini said Monday. "He's in the mix each week too."
RB Quinn Porter (undrafted free agent): The Browns signed him to the practice squad on Nov. 23. The Stillman (Ala.) College product had a stint on the Redskins' practice squad in November and was originally signed by Green Bay.
RB Montario Hardesty (second round, No. 59) is on injured reserve after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the Browns' final preseason game. ...SS Larry Asante (fifth round): He was waived on Sept. 4 and signed to the Browns' practice squad the next day. The Buccaneers signed him to their 53-man roster on Nov. 30. ... DE Clifton Geathers (sixth round, No. 186) was waived by the Browns on Sept. 4. ... WR Johnathan Haggerty (undrafted free agent) was waived/injured on Aug. 16 with a foot injury and is currently on Cleveland's injured-reserve list.
