Browns OLT Joe Thomas was named an AFC starter for the 2011 Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Tuesday. He is the only Brown to make the squad.

Thomas, who has played every snap for Cleveland since entering the NFL in 2007, will be making his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance. He is the 19th Brown to be named to four Pro Bowls or more and the first Brown since CB Frank Minnifield (1987-90) to make four consecutive Pro Bowls.

The following Browns were selected as alternates:

Second alternates: RB Peyton Hillis, C Alex Mack, OLG Eric Steinbach.

Third alternates: RS Joshua Cribbs, ST Ray Ventrone, FB Lawrence Vickers.

Fourth alternate: CB Joe Haden.

The way we see it

Thomas is regarded as one of the NFL's best at his position, so his selection isn't a surprise. Hillis, Mack and Steinbach are worthy second alternates and have had fine seasons, as has Vickers, one of the AFC's top blocking backs. Haden has been outstanding in the second half of the season but only recently became a starter; he has a very bright future.
