Following the 49ers' 25-17 loss to the Rams that eliminated them from playoff contention, owner Jed York said the team will look to hire a general manager. York did not say whether or not head coach Mike Singletary would keep his job.

The team's current VP of Player Personnel, Trent Baalke, will be considered for the GM position. In a text message to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, York said the team will hire a GM, who will then hire the next head coach.

The Niners are 5-10 and their loss to the Rams officially eliminated them from a chance to win the NFC West.

The way we see it

The 49ers have been one of the league's biggest disappointments this season. The preseason favorite to win the NFC West started the season 0-5 and will finish in the bottom half of the league in offense. Neither QB Alex Smith nor Troy Smith was able to find success under center all season long. Heading into the season finale against the Cardinals, the Niners are 3-2 against the division.
