Following are several whispers we've heard recently from around the AFC West:
• The Chargers moved CB Antoine Cason into the punt-returner role after Darren Sproles suffered a concussion in Week 13, but that switch is about to end. Head coach Norv Turner recently indicated that having Cason as the full-time return guy is too big a gamble, as he is too valuable on defense to risk getting injured on special teams. Sproles, who is averaging 6.9 yards on punt returns, is expected to regain the job now that he's at full health.
• While the Chiefs continue to have one of the league's more potent rushing attacks, we're told that their fullbacks have not been major factors in clearing running lanes for Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones. FBs Tim Castille and Mike Cox have each played in about half the contests, but neither has been a wrecking ball on the ground. Both fullbacks have made some noise as pass catchers but have done little else.
• We hear the Broncos have no intention of adding another fullback to the roster after placing Spencer Larsen (ankle) on injured reserve. The fullback doesn't see a lot of snaps in the Broncos' offensive scheme, so the organization will be able to move on without one. In goal-line situations, the Broncos could plug TE Richard Quinn in at the position.
