As the Steelers used their passing game to get the jump on the hapless Panthers in a 27-3 victory in Week 16, two of QB Ben Roethlisberger's favorite targets were an old reliable one (TE Heath Miller) and young, improving one (WR Emmanuel Sanders). Miller, who had missed the previous two games with a concussion, caught a team-high five passes for 73 yards, catching 4-59-0 in the first 30 minutes. Sanders. whose role in the passing game continues to grow, hauled in four passes for 54 yards, all in the first half, and his 35-yard second-quarter reception on a pass down the deep middle set up Pittsburgh's second touchdown. Earlier, Sanders had a TD catch overturned on review. Since Week Nine, Sanders has been targeted 43 times; only Mike Wallace, Roethlisberger's go-to receiver, has been thrown to more in this span, though Miller's two games missed have to be taken into account. With Miller back, Sanders emerging and Hines Ward still effective, the Steelers have a host of capable targets to feature if teams key on the speedy Wallace.
