The Cardinals have placed WR Early Doucet on injured reserve and promoted LB Curtis Gatewood from the practice squad to fill his roster spot.

Doucet was carted off the field on Sunday after suffering a hip injury in Arizona's 19-12 loss to the Panthers. He finishes the season with 26 catches for 291 yards and a score.

Gatewood entered the league with the Redskins as a rookie free agent 2008 and played in six games with the Chiefs later that year. He joined the Cardinals on Sept. 8 after participating in training camp and preseason with Washington.

The way we see it

Doucet was unable to fill the shoes of the departed Anquan Boldin, who joined the Ravens during the offseason. Rookie WR Andre Roberts replaced Doucet on Sunday and will likely see increased action the rest of the way. Gatewood will provide depth at the linebacker position.

Fantasy spin

WR Larry Fitzgerald has been less effective than in years past thanks to ineffective QB play and Boldin being gone, and could be targeted by opposing defenders even more without Doucet in the lineup. But with the Cowboys and 49ers remaining on the schedule, both of which rank in the bottom quarter of the league in pass "D," Fitzgerald remains a must-start.
