Despite all the drama that kept Vincent Jackson away from the Chargers for the first half of the season, he could be back in San Diego for one more year.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the Chargers could consider placing a franchise tag on Jackson to keep him for one season. It's pretty much out of the question that they would sign him to a long-term deal, but the franchise tag for $10 million for 2011 is a possibility.

Jackson held out in hopes of a $50 million long-term deal until reporting and signing his tender on Oct. 29. He caught three touchdowns in last Thursday's win over the 49ers.

The way we see it

We don't know what the franchise tag will mean under the next collective bargaining agreement, but Jackson will accrue his sixth season toward free agency by being eligible for six games this season, so he could test the waters for a long-term deal. His off-the-field concerns remain, but he showed Thursday night how dynamic he can be as a receiver.
