With no time to work him in slowly, the Eagles will turn to rookie Jamar Chaney at middle linebacker in the place of Stewart Bradley, whose elbow likely will keep him out at least until the playoffs. Chaney was a good college football player but slid to the seventh round, mainly because of concerns over his instincts and lack of pure power at the point of attack. Those skills most certainly will be tested in Chaney's first start against the Giants, who are built on a power run game and a man-blocking offensive line that aims to punish on the second level. Chaney's athletic ability and desire never have been in question, though, and he has impressed the coaches with his ability to fit in well with the scheme. But he'll have to show that he has done his homework because Bradley had called the defensive formations and helped get teammates lined up properly, something that Chaney now will have to handle. Just as opponents attacked the area vacated by CB Asante Samuel when he left the lineup with an injury, they also will go after Chaney now that he's been thrust into the spotlight.
