According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers Pro Bowl S Troy Polamalu, who reaggravated a lower-leg injury in the team's Week 14 win over the Bengals and hasn't practiced this week, is not expected to play against the Jets this Sunday.

Polamalu, who has 62 tackles and six interceptions this season, including four picks during the team's four-game winning streak, originally suffered the lower-leg injury in November. He has played through it, then appeared to reaggravate the injury during his 45-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the first half of Pittsburgh's 23-7 win over the Bengals.

The five-time Pro Bowler likely will be replaced in the starting lineup by either Will Allen or Ryan Mundy.

The way we see it

This is a big blow to the Steelers' 23rd-ranked pass defense. Without their top playmaker in the secondary, the Jets might be emboldened to attack the Steelers deep, with WRs Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards and TE Dustin Keller capable of making big plays downfield.

Working in the Steelers' favor is the game-time weather forecast of a chance of snow, which could limit both teams' effectiveness in the passing game.
