Panthers DE Everette Brown didn't earn a full-time starting role in his second season and his production — six sacks in 28 games — hasn't been close to the level some were expecting him to achieve. He has yet to make a big leap, but we're told the team feels like Brown, a second-round pick in 2009, is still not a finished product and was showing significant signs of improvement before he landed on injured reserve after Week 14 with a wrist injury, which will require surgery. Team observers say Brown was getting more consistent pressure on quarterbacks in the past month and we hear the feeling in Charlotte is that his arrow is pointing up. He was playing behind Charles Johnson, who is having a strong season in his first year as a full-time starter, and team captain Tyler Brayton. Johnson will be a free agent this offseason, and Brown could slide in to replace him if he departs.
