The Jets have signed DT Jarron Gilbert to the active roster from their practice squad, taking the spot of WR Patrick Turner, who was released Wednesday.
A 2009 third-round draft choice of the Bears, Gilbert has shuffled between the Jets' active roster and practice squad since being signed following training camp. He was on the 53-man roster for Weeks Eight through 10, but was inactive for all three games.
Last season with Chicago, Gilbert played in four games, but only recorded one tackle. He was cut following the team's training camp this season before signing with New York.
The way we see it
Gilbert is an athletic player who can play both end and tackle, but has yet to show his abilities in the NFL. The Jets have been looking for more playmakers on defense and it appears they will give Gilbert that chance in the coming weeks.
