Bears-Vikings matchup of the day: Thursday

Here's a key matchup when the Bears head to Minnesota to face the Vikings in Week 15:

Bears OLT Frank Omiyale vs. Vikings DE Jared Allen

Allen has heated up his pass rush the past month or so, but he hasn't been a force against the run consistently and hasn't finished some sack chances that he normally does. The last time these two met up, Allen beat Omiyale on a very quick sack and had about a half-dozen additional pressures. But QB Jay Cutler got rid of the ball quickly for the most part and was able to beat the blitz the handful of times the Vikings brought it. It led to the Bears converting on 11-of-19 third-down attempts in the game.

But overall, you'd have to say that Allen got the best of Omiyale last time and had one of his better run-defending games of the season, as well. The Bears have sped up their passing game even more since they last met, though, and Chicago might be able to give Omiyale more help on his side if Vikings DE Ray Edwards remains out; the word as of Thursday was that he was getting better, but it was not definite whether he would play or not on Monday.
