Chargers TE Antonio Gates, who is still suffering from a torn plantar fascia, is not expected to play on Thursday against the 49ers, according to NFL.com.

The former Pro Bowler missed San Diego's 31-0 win over the Chiefs last week and has played in just two of the team's past five games.

Gates has 50 catches for 782 yards and 10 touchdowns this season in 10 games.

The way we see it

The Chargers, who are 7-6 overall, have won all three of their games this season without Gates in the lineup. Randy McMichael, who has 11-131-2 this season, will fill in for Gates until he is healthy enough to return.

Fantasy Spin

QB Philip Rivers' numbers have not suffered without Gates in the lineup, so start him as you normally would. WR Vincent Jackson should pick up some extra targets this week and could be a nice fantasy play as well.
