What follows are a handful of noteworthy early-week quotes from Packers players a few days after Green Bay’s costly Week 14 loss to the Lions in Detroit:

OLB Clay Matthews on the Packers needing to finish the season strong: “You hoped that we were past this by now. If we can take away anything, hopefully it’s a real wake-up call, especially coming into these last three games. We’ve got to play some of our best ball, and let the chips fall where they may.” (Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette)

Rookie TE Andrew Quarless on his fumble during the Packers’ opening drive: "I was trying to protect the ball. The guy came in and made a good play and ripped it out." (Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

WR James Jones on the team’s lack of offense in the loss to the Lions: “The bottom line is they came out here and they kicked our butts. We came out here and we laid down and didn’t play the way we know we can play. As an offense, we scored three points. With the people we’ve got on this offense, it doesn’t matter if it’s the second-string quarterback or the seventh-string quarterback. With the people we’ve got on this offense, you don’t put up three points. That’s ridiculous.” (Source:

QB Matt Flynn on overthrowing WR Donald Driver on 4th-and-1: “When it came off my hand, I thought it came out well and thought it was going to be a good ball. But obviously it wasn’t.” (Source: Green Bay Press-Gazette)

Packers WR Donald Driver on what he said to QB Aaron Rodgers after he suffered a concussion: "I said, 'You've got a choice. You want to be Mr. Ironman, but you don't have to.' This is a game, but this is your life we're taking about." (Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
