Here's a matchup to watch in Sunday's Browns-Bengals game:
Browns OLB Matt Roth vs. Bengals ORTs Dennis Roland and Anthony Collins
In the 19 games Roth has played for the Browns since Cleveland claimed him off waivers in November 2009, Roth has 7½ sacks — three of which have come in two games vs. the Bengals.
The 6-4, 275-pound Roth notched a pair of sacks in the Browns' 23-20 win vs. Cincinnati in Week Four. On his second sack of the game, which came on what was the Bengals' last offensive snap of the contest as the Browns held their three-point lead with around five minutes left, Roth lined up wide, pushed Roland back, beat him to the outside and chased down Palmer, who had rolled left.
According to STATS Inc., Roland has surrendered six sacks in 13 games (11 starts). He lost his starting job to Andre Smith but regained it after Smith suffered a season-ending foot injury in November.
Collins, who has played more in recent weeks, could also be matched up on Roth, who's strong vs. the run, too.
"He's outstanding, he brings a temperament with him," Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said of Roth in late November. "It's been well documented how he approaches the running game and the success we've had in the running game. ... Roth's doing an excellent job, most teams run away from him."
