PFW recently caught up with Bills play-by-play announcer and (Buffalo) WIVB-TV sports director John Murphy and asked him three questions about the team. Here's our questions and his answers:

PFW: The Bills have just two wins, but they have been very competitive since the Week Six bye. What have been some of the keys to the Bills' improvement?

Murphy: The biggest key, I believe, is the emergence of Ryan Fitzpatrick as quarterback. His command of the Bills' offense, combined with his ability to avoid the pass rush, has made him a good fit for this team right now. The Bills' passing offense in the first two weeks of the season was horrible. Since Fitzpatrick took over in Week Three, they have been able to make plays and stay in some games.

PFW: Assess head coach Chan Gailey's performance this season. What has been his best decision, and what has been his worst decision?

Murphy: Gailey's best decision has been to turn the reins of the offense over to Fitzpatrick. His worst decision may have been to wait until Week Three to do so. Had Fitzpatrick been installed as the team's starter during the offseason, the Bills may have been further along on offense.

PFW: What are the team's biggest priorities in the offseason?

Murphy: The Bills have very many personnel needs, but quarterback is at the top of the list. Fitzpatrick's play this year gives them the option to keep him as the "bridge" quarterback to a new franchise signalcaller. But they desperately need to upgrade the position for the long-term future.
