It's official. The John Skelton era is about to begin in Phoenix.
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt named Skelton the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Broncos. Derek Anderson has not been cleared to play after sustaining a concussion and Max Hall is on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
Skelton completed 3-of-6 passes for 45 yards in last Sunday's 19-6 loss to the Rams. His backup will likely be Richard Bartel who played in the UFL this season. Skelton was the team's fifth-round pick out of Fordham.
The way we see it
The Cardinals' quarterbacks have been miserable this season, throwing just eight touchdown passes and 16 interceptions. At 3-9, they won't make the playoffs and now Skelton gets his chance to prove if he is capable of factoring into the future of the position in Arizona.
