The Bengals had a clear primary need entering last offseason: bolstering their pass-catching corps for QB Carson Palmer. They did just that, albeit with one expensive misstep: the signing of WR Antonio Bryant, who didn't make the team. This offseason, they have a plethora of areas that may have to be addressed. Running back would be a need if Cedric Benson departs in free agency, for instance. Wide receiver, once again, could be a position needing reinforcements, depending on whether free-agent-to-be Terrell Owens is back and if Chad Ochocinco's contract is picked up for 2011. Considering the Bengals' pass-rush woes, adding help at defensive end might be a priority. Safety, with Roy Williams a free agent, also could be addressed. The Bengals' plans at quarterback, with Palmer having an up-and-down season, figure to be a source of speculation, too, but Palmer is signed through 2014, and any potential successor to him is not on the roster presently, likely giving him a hold on the starting job at least in the short term, the way we hear it.
