Ravens DT Haloti Ngata and LB Jameel McClain said Thursday that they will appeal fines handed to them by the NFL for their hits in Sunday night's loss to the Steelers.

McClain was fined $40,000 for his hit on Steelers TE Heath Miller that gave Miller a concussion. Ngata was docked $15,000 for striking Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger in the face. Roethlisberger broke his nose on the play.

"Of course, I think it's not right," Ngata told The Baltimore Sun. "I feel like there was no other way I could have played that play because I'm swimming the guard, he starts to duck, and my arm is coming down over the guard. But I'm going to appeal it and see if hopefully, I can get some money back."

The way we see it

In a season when the NFL is cracking down on hits, neither player is expected to win his appeal. The league came down quickly on the two, just one day after the game. McClain's hit looked more violent while Ngata's appeared to be a bit of a fluke, so the defensive tackle may have a better chance in the appeals process.
