The Lions have placed CB Alphonso Smith on injured reserve with a shoulder injury and added CB Prince Miller to take his spot on the roster.
Smith, who leads the Lions with five interceptions this season, dislocated his shoulder on the final drive of Detroit's 24-20 loss to the Bears on Sunday.
Miller joined the Ravens as an undrafted free agent earlier this season. He was released by the team in September but returned to the team later that month. He was with the team for three games before being released and placed on the practice squad.
The way we see it
Smith had been the Lions' best playmaker at the position and will be missed in an already thin Detroit secondary. While he hasn't matched his great start to the season, especially in the 45-24 Thanksgiving Day loss to the Patriots, he was still a reliable option. CBs Nathan Vasher or Brandon McDonald are the likely options to step into Smith's starting spot, with Miller providing depth.
