The Jets have signed S Emanuel Cook to help bolster their banged-up secondary.
Injuries to safeties Jim Leonhard and James Ihedigbo forced the Jets to cut ties with recently re-signed WR Laveranues Coles when secondary depth became too big of a concern.
Cook, who was a defensive back at South Carolina, went undrafted last season and has been playing for the Hartford Colonials in the UFL.
S Keith Fitzhugh was originally offered the spot on the Jets roster, but the 24-year-old decided to retain his job as a train conductor. He cited the need for a steady paycheck to provide for his family over the longterm as taking priority over playing for the Jets for a few weeks.
The way we see it
The Jets' secondary was torched by the Patriots on Monday and was clearly missing Leonhard. While Cook will in no way replace the veteran safety, he will provide depth at the position.
