Los Angeles Chargers in 2012?

The Chargers may be leaving San Diego in the near future, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The newspaper reports the team may return to Los Angeles in time for the 2012 regular season, playing games in the 87-year-old L.A. Memorial Coliseum; a deal to build a new stadium in downtown Los Angeles would soon follow. If San Diego wants to keep the team, the city and team would need to agree on a ballot measure to build a new stadium during 2011 and will need that to pass in the Nov. 2012 election, but according to the Times, that will probably never materialize.

Chargers president and CEO Dean Spanos has apparently become frustrated with San Diego's lack of commitment to the team and building a new venue, and he is unlikely to campaign publically for voters to pass the ballot measure.

The Chargers played in L.A. during their debut season of 1960 before moving south to San Diego.
