The 49ers will return to Alex Smith as their starting quarterback in Week 14 in his first start since Week Seven, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.
Smith left the Niners' Week Seven game with a sprained left shoulder and has not played since. Troy Smith took over at quarterback, starting with a Week Eight win over the Broncos in London. Troy Smith was 3-2 as the starter but completed just 10-of-25 passes in last Sunday's loss to the Packers.
Alex Smith was 1-6 as a starter, including the Week Seven game, in which he was injured with the score tied before Carolina eventually won it. There was also one game in which fans chanted for backup David Carr to replace him.
Troy Smith will be the backup this Sunday when the 49ers play the Seahawks.
The way we see it
Despite Troy Smith having a much better record than Alex Smith, head coach Mike Singletary has said that Alex Smith would start when healthy.
