It took a stern tongue-lashing from Lovie Smith at halftime, but the Bears' defense rebounded after a bad start and held the Lions to just three second-half points in Chicago's 24-20 comeback win on Sunday. With four games to play, Chicago has won five games in a row and is still one game ahead of Green Bay for first place in the NFC North.
DE Israel Idonije said the usually even-tempered head coach was "pissed" about the Bears' performance in the first half against the last-place Lions, and apparently his outburst was well timed.
"I don't remember what he said, but he had steam coming out of his head," CB D.J. Moore said, per the Chicago Sun-Times.
The schedule does get much more difficult now, with games against the Patriots (9-2), Vikings (5-7), Jets (9-2) and Packers (8-4) remaining. Smith can't have the Bears come out as flat as they did against Detroit, because their four remaining opponents have more experience finishing teams off than the Lions do.
