The Jets have signed WR Laveranues Coles, filling the roster spot vacated by injured S Jim Leonhard.
Coles was released by the team at the end of training camp and has not played in the NFL this season. In 10 professional seasons with the Jets, Redskins and Bengals, Coles had 674 catches for 8,609 yards and 49 touchdowns.
The way we see it
Coles will not see many snaps this season with Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery locked in as the team's top three wide receivers. But he provides another target and experience of going through many tough AFC East battles.
Don't be surprised if the team makes a corrisponding move next week to sign a defensive back. The most likely candidate to be released for that would be Coles or fellow WR Patrick Turner.
