With Bruce Gradkowski out of the picture, Jason Campbell has a chance to prove to the Raiders that he is worth committing to as their starting quarterback beyond this season. Gradkowski — who was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury Dec. 2 — will be a free agent in the coming offseason, but Campbell still has another season left on the deal he signed with the Raiders after they traded for him in April. Some observers are wondering if not having Gradkowski, who replaced him as the starter twice this season, breathing down his neck would be beneficial to Campbell. He seemed to play better in Weeks Seven through Nine while Gradkowski was out nursing a shoulder injury. With no first-round pick in 2011 and a weak crop of quarterbacks headed toward free agency, the Raiders would likely have to work out a trade again if they decided to bring in a new quarterback to compete with Campbell.
