Crosby getting Bolts' special teams turned around

We hear that some around the organization believed that somebody needed to take the fall for a Chargers special-teams unit considered to be one of the worst of all time early in the season. But head coach Norv Turner never wavered in his backing of special-teams coach Steve Crosby, and his decision to stand pat looks like it could pay off. While the group struggled greatly with return touchdowns and blocked punts during the first half of the season, San Diego seemed to fix its problems during the bye and has been nearly flawless in the third phase ever since. P Mike Scifres actually completed a pass for a first down on a trick play in Week 11, and PK Nate Kaeding was a perfect 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts in Week 12. The club also said its coverage was at its best last Sunday vs. the Colts. Now that the Bolts aren't playing with a cavalcade of backups, Crosby has the unit back on track.
