Vikings-Redskins prediction

The Vikings have been heading in the wrong direction for nine months now, and it cost Brad Childress his job on Monday. Although the playoffs are likely out of reach, a strong finish is not. New head coach Leslie Frazier has had a calming, focusing effect this week, and he'll lead his team into D.C. with much of the weight off their backs. Brett Favre has no one to butt heads with, and he can run more of the offense he and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell want, for better or worse.

They'll be facing a Redskins defense that will be shorthanded and without SS LaRon Landry, one of the unit's best players. The Redskins have not stopped many teams this season, and the Vikings can use the power running of RB Adrian Peterson and the potential passing explosiveness of WRs Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice to exploit that weakness. Expect a solid effort by the beleaguered Vikings.

Prediction: Vikings 23, Redskins 20
