Saints DE Will Smith was arrested and charged with domestic abuse battery early Saturday morning.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that Smith allegedly grabbed his wife by the hair near a Lafayette, La., nightclub and was arrested after 2 a.m. Saturday. According to the Lafyette Police Department, police officers observed Smith arguing with his wife and pulling her down the street by her hair. She received minor injuries.

Smith was released on $1,000 bond. He has started 10 games this season for the Saints and recorded a sack in their Thanksgiving Day win over the Cowboys. Smith recorded 13 sacks in 16 starts in 2009.

The way we see it

This is not a story the Saints want to see, especially involving the seventh-year veteran and leader along the defensive line. Smith's arrest could fall under the commissioner's personal conduct policy, and he may be subject to a fine or suspension.
