The New York Daily News reports that Giants OLT Shawn Andrews was unable to participate in Thursday's practice because of back pain and later went to a hospital because of issues related to his troublesome back.

Andrews, who missed all of the 2008 and ’09 seasons with back issues that required two surgeries, has been struggling recently with a recurrence of back problems. He did not practice leading up to the Giants' game last Sunday night against the Eagles, his former team, before starting and playing the entire game.

He practiced on a limited basis Wednesday but was unable to go on Thursday. With usual starting OLT Dave Diehl still out with a partially torn hamstring, Andrews has been counted on to protect Eli Manning's blind side. If he can't play Sunday against the Jaguars, Will Beatty would take over the OLT job.

The way we see it

This is not good news for a Giants' offense that has been banged up, with Diehl and starting WRs Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks all being sidelined. Andrews has added quality depth when the starters have been healthy and solid play as a fill-in. If he were to be lost for any length of time, it would be a big blow to the team's O-line depth.
